NSS Unit
The University is successfully running the National Service Scheme Programme with more than 300 allotted seats by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The NSS Unit organized 7-Days NSS Special Winter Camp from January 14-20, 2020 with the theme ‘Youth for Environment and Cleanliness’ ‘Paryavaran Aur Swatchhta Ko Samarpit Yuva’ where 130 volunteers registered for the same.
Another seven-day NSS Special Camp was attended by 120 NSS volunteers from November 21-27, 2019 at Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar on the theme ‘Role of Youth for Clean and Healthy India’.
In order to promote series of Government of India’s flagship programs, the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Project has been implemented where in NSS volunteers adopted village Barewal Dogran near Ludhiana. During the Semester break of 2018, NSS Volunteers painted the walls of Government Primary School, Water Tank and the village Dharamshala apart from sweeping the school grounds. A total of eight big dustbins were donated for segregation of solid waste into non-biodegradable and biodegradable waste.
Another SBSI project was organized at Barewal Awana village of Ludhiana, from 10th to 31st July 2019. Six students of B. Tech. Biotechnology contributed 100 hours and participated in this program where they organized a number of activities under the flagship of GADVASU-NSS and with cooperation of local authorities (including Counsellor Mr. Pankaj Kaka) and IAS officer (Miss Kamalpreet Brar). Important NSS-activities conducted by the volunteers were waste collection, door to door campaign on cleanliness drive, tree plantation, awareness rally on Swatchh Bharat and cleanliness, tree planting etc.
National Integration Camp at Kangra:
Krishiv Vasudeva won third prize in Debate competition at National Integration Camp (NIC) held at M.C.M DAV College, Kangra (H.P). Two NSS volunteers (Krishiv Vasudeva from College of Veterinary Science and Saumya Mehta from College of Fisheries) participated in this national NSS camp of seven days duration from 24-02-2020 to 01-03-2020 at Himachal Pradesh. The Theme of the camp was 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' where more than 190 participants from all over India participated and showcased their religion and culture and the power of one nation in the camp.
Cycle Rally at Rakh Bagh:
A total 100 NSS volunteers participated in a cycle rally Cyclothon 2020 that flagged off by GADVASU Welfare Officer and NSS Programme Coordinator, Mrs. Nidhi Sharma from Rakh Bagh under the Fit India Movement on January 18, 2020. Students held placards with slogans of ‘Fit India’ and ‘Save Environment’ during the cycle rally.
Stubble Burning Rallies:
An Awareness Rally on Stubble Burning was flagged off from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science Universities (GADVASU) by Mr. Sandeep Bahl, Senior Environmental Engineer, Punjab Pollution Control Board and senior officials from University and PPCB on 5 October 2019. More than 100 NSS Volunteers visited different Villages, including Jhamat, Malakpur, Ayali Khurd, Barewal, Birmi and Barsem, to make farmers aware of the ill-effects of Stubble Burning on Health and environment.
Another Mega Awareness rally against stubble burning was held in the nearby villages of Ludhiana i.e. Khandoor, Mohi (Near Mullanpur) on October 30, 2019
Another group of NSS volunteers participated in the Awareness Rally in villages named Pamal and Pamali (near baddowal) on October 31, 2019.
Rose Plantation at Scientist Home:
Rose Plantation Drive was organised on February 15, 2020 at Scientist Home, GADVASU, Ludhiana. Around 250 roses were planted in Scientist Home, GADVASU in memory of Meenu Sharma, a second year NRI Student of College of Veterinary Science, who passed away during a road accident. More than 100 students took part in the plantation drive organised by the NSS volunteers of College of Dairy Science and Technology, College of Animal Biotechnology and College of Fisheries, in association with landscaping wing.
Workshop with Punjab Pollution Control Board:
NSS Programme Coordinator, Programme Officers and 120 volunteers attended one day workshop organsied by Punjab Pollution Control Board for environment protection on February 7, 2020 at Dr. Manmohan Singh Auditorium, PAU, Ludhiana.
International Yoga Day:
Students were sensitized about the health benefits of yoga in promoting physical, mental and spiritual health by observing International Yoga day on June 21, 2019. During the camp, more than 100 NSS volunteers including university faculty and staff were enlightened about various yoga aasanas and pranayam techniques.
Donation for flood affected/Needy villages
On November 1, 2019, NSS volunteers handed over the donations in the form of beddings, clothes, soft toys, shoes etc to a NGO, Eknoor, for further distribution to the needy and flood affected people.
Blood Donation Camp
A Blood Donation Camp was organized by NSS wing in association with Civil Hospital, Ludhiana at Silver Jubilee Block GADVASU on January 25th, 2019 and 40 units of blood was donated by the NSS volunteers.
Another Blood Donation Camp was organized for NSS volunteers in association with Model Blood Bank, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. In total thirty one units of blood was donated by volunteers. All the donors were honored with medals and certificates by concerned authority.
NSS Trip
On November 23, 2019, NSS volunteers visited Pingalwara, established by Bhagat Puran Singh Ji. It is home for specially-abled persons, deaf and dumb, orphaned children and old persons who have nobody to care for them. Dr. Inderjit Kaur Ji (Head of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society) motivated volunteers to work for betterment of our environment, society and to serve the humanity.
Covid-19
As the Nation continue to fight with the Covid-19 in its own ways, the NSS volunteers of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences university and its affiliated colleges pooled in for social cause at their respective places. During Covid-19 pandemic, NSS Volunteers took part in various activities of social welfare and get associated in distribution of mask, langars for the welfare of the society.
Rohan Sharma, who is enrolled as NSS volunteer at University affiliated College of Veterinary Science at Rampura Phul in Bathinda has performed langar sewa at Jammu Pathankot border areas. A regular at Sewa, Rohan has been engaged in distributing food to the migrant labourers stuck at Lakhanpur border near Shahpur kandi in Pathankot. Another student, Pawandeep Singh, a NSS volunteer at Amritsar located University's constituent college Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has joined hands with Udham NGO at Abohar for door to door distribution of ration and essential grocery items to needy.
