Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal is serving as Principal Scientist at the Department of Animal Nutrition, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. He did his graduation and post-graduation from Punjab Agricultural University in 1999 and 2001, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, in 2011. Dr. Hundal has over 21.5 years of academic experience and has guided 22 M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. students as a major or co-guide. He has been credited with 21 research projects as PI or Co-PI, as well as 91 research articles published in national and international journals. A patent on "Rice straw-based complete feed pellets for ruminants’ is another feather in his crown. He was instrumental in developing technologies like ‘Mineral Mixture for Swine’ (first time in India), Mineral Mixture for Fish, and Area Specific Mineral Mixture for the Central, South-West, and Kandi Zones of Punjab,’ and ‘Calf Starter Technology’. He has written three text books for UG and PG students, titled ‘Basics of Animal Nutrition,’ ‘Animal Nutrition Made Easy’ and ‘Ruminant Clinical Nutrition’ as well as 15 book chapters and eight teaching practical manuals. Dr. Hundal has also authored or edited three extension books, 11 training compendiums, 10 folders or bulletins, 192 extension publications, 10 technical videos, delivered 30 radio or TV talks, and given 231 expert or invited lectures to disseminate knowledge of animal nutrition at farmer doorsteps. Additionally, he has coordinated 83 livestock trainings and has been instrumental in establishing the university’s ‘Farmers Information Centre.’
Dr. Hundal had the honour of receiving the prestigious Best Researcher Award of the University-2023, Best Teacher Award-2024, Best Extension Scientist Award-2019, Drool’s Best Nutritionist Award-2018 (ISACP), Distinguished Alumnus Award-2019, Partnership Excellence Award-2013 (NABARD), 5 Appreciation Awards, 13 best paper/poster awards, 3 student best thesis awards, and 11 letters of appreciation from various agencies. He is Associate fellow of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences, National Academy of Dairy Sciences and Animal Nutrition Society of India.
