Training on Integrated fish farming for self-employment at KVK, Barnala of Vet Varsity

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Barnala organized a five days vocational training on Integrated fish farming for self employment under the guidance of Dr. Prahalad Singh Tanwar Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Barnala. A total 41 rural youth and farmers from 13 villages of Barnala district were participated in the training programme. Dr. P.S. Tanwar inaugurated the training by welcoming all the trainees. He said that KVK is implementing a number of programmes for farmers and farmers may get benefit by these programme. Dr. Tanwar also emphasized that farmer can be utilized their own resources in better way by adopting integrated fish farming and  may get extra income for their livelihood.

Sh. Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries), KVK, Barnala gave theoretical and practical knowledge on different types of fishes, breeding & rearing of fishes, their integration with agriculture and livestock farming systems for efficient recycling of waste, various diseases and their control, seasonal management, preparation of fish feed and management of fish pond in detailed. More emphasis was given on practical aspects of the fish farming.

An exposure visit was also arranged for the trainees at College of Fisheries GADVASU Ludhiana. Farmers were exposed with integrated fish cum duck farm, Chinese carp hatchery, fish feed mill and cage culture for high value fishes and ornamental fish culture unit maintained at college. Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director Extension Education (GADVASU) explained the role of GADVASU for the upliftment of fish farmers in the state and also said that fish farming is a new emerging field for self employment
