Yoga enthusiasts from among the students, faculty and staff of the university gathered at sprawling lawns of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) here on Tuesday morning to observe the second International Yoga Day celebrations. The function was organised under the aegis of NSS unit of the university with over 100 volunteers and faculty members participated in the event.
The event began around 6 a.m. with a renowned Yoga expert, Mr. Ravinder Gupta, guiding the participating volunteers about the different Yoga postures and their benefits in routine life. Mr. Gupta is a member of the Ludhiana chapter of Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. He also addressed an interactive seminar wherein students and yoga expert exchanged their views.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. S.P.S Sangha, Director Student Welfare, shared with the students as to how the Yoga got international recognition with Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, mooting the idea with United Nations and finally being adopted by entire world.
NSS Programme Coordinator, Nidhi Sharma said that Yoga plays a very important
role as it gives comfort to the mind and body. “It makes the body flexible and mind adaptable to any situation. Especially, at a time when there is so much of stress during competitive times, Yoga can effectively tackle these issues”, emphasised Nidhi Sharma.
Earlier, Dr. Siva Kumar and Dr. Vijay Kumar Reddy, NSS Programme Officers, of College of Dairy Science and Technology and College of Fishery Sciences respectively, informed that special NSS camps for volunteers would be organised during semester break in collaboration with various NGOs engaged in yoga activities. During the camp students will be enlightened about various yoga aasans and pranayam techniques.
At the end of the day, the participating volunteers were given fruits and milk as healthy refreshment.
