World Veterinary Day marks the importance of veterinarians and is celebrated to highlight the work of veterinary profession in public health, animal health, animal welfare and environmental protection. Vets Club Ludhiana celebrated the World Veterinary Day. The celebrations were organised in an innovative manner by organizing Indian Immunological’s sponsored free camp on vaccination, deworming, deticking of dogs and cats in a morning session which was inaugurated by Prof. P.S. Dhaliwal, Comptroller, GADVASU, Ludhiana. Dr. N.K. Arora, IPS (IGP Security, Punjab) inaugurated the technical session on ‘Relationship between size of animal farming unit and incidence zoonotic diseases’. Dr. (Mrs.) Deepinder Chinna, Prof. & Head, Microbial Deptt., DMC & H, Ludhiana; Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Asstt. Prof., School of Public Health & Zoonoses, GADVASU and Dr. Anuj Tyagi, Asstt. Prof. Microbiology, College of Fisheries, GADVASU; discussed about important prevalent zoonotic diseases as well as emerging diseases with one health focus. On the occasion, promising farmers were felicitated. S. Balwinder Singh a buffalo farmer of Village Rurka, Distt. Fatehgarh Sahib; S. Iqbal Singh is a successful cattle dairy farmer of Village Ghulian Kalan Distt. Moga and S. Dharminder Singh is promising Pig Farmer, Village Sanghera Distt. Barnala. Also, the outstanding veterinarians namely Prof. Dr. Harpal Singh Sandhu, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU who is a veterinarian with great academic & research contributions and dynamic administrator; Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Professor, Vety. Gynaecology & Obstetrics, GADVASU, an Excellent Academician and researcher and Dr. Simranpreet Kaur Thind, Asstt. Prof., School of Public Health and Zoonoses, GADVASU as a Promising Lady Veterinary Academician as well as researcher, were felicitated on the occasion. Prof. S.N.S. Randhawa, Director of Research, GADVASU and President of the Vets Club, summed up presentation by words of wisdom on topic spoken by experts. Dr. Randhawa emphasized that in present time university Scientists and Veterinarians working in Animal Husbandry Department can jointly create awareness to help small & marginal farmers as well as other economically weaker section individual for following latest management practices to prevent and control Zoonotic diseases. Dr. N.S. Sharma, Controller of Examination, GADVASU acted as stage coordinator for seminar and thanked the Guest of honour Dr. S.K. Kalia for sparing time. The club organized socio-cultural activities for children and ladies in the evening. In the last, musical show was enjoyed by everyone with Dr. Sukhwant Singh and Dr. Charan Kamal Singh.
