34th Annual Convention of Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine (ISVM) and National Symposium on “Newer Approaches in Diagnosis and Management of Animal Diseases for Sustainable Health and Production” being organized at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana from February 17-19, 2016 concluded today on 19th Feb., 2016. Dr. Kulbir Singh Sandhu, Member PPSC was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Dr. Sandhu gave emphasis on accurate disease diagnosis in animals and their proper care and management. Dr. S.S. Singh, Dean, PGS, Dr. H.K. Verma, Director Extension and Dr. H.S. Sandhu, Dean College of Veterinary Science were also present to grace the occasion.
A hands on training cum Workshop on echocardiography was the main attraction of the concluding day. Forty practising clinicians and veterinarians representing different parts of the country were skilled for use of this advance technique in diagnosis of cardiac diseases. Dr. Naved Aslam and Dr. Rohit Tondon, experts from DMC&H apprised the participants with this technique.
Dr. B.K. Bansal, Head, Department of Veterinary Medicine cum Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks and he revealed that the conference was attended by approx. 500 scientists, academicians, researchers and postgraduate students from all over India and abroad. He, further acknowledged the financial support given by NABARD and other agencies. Mr. Nalin Rai, AGM, NABARD, Ludhiana highlighted the NABARD’s role in livestock sector and briefed about various operational schemes for the same. Two technical sessions on Equine & Pack animals and Wild, Zoo & Exotic animals were held today in which renowned scientists across the country presented their findings for improved diagnosis and management of animal diseases. Dr. S.N.S. Randhawa, President ISVM & Director of Research, GADVASU lauded the efforts of the organizing team and emphasized that major challenges for sustainable health and production can only be addressed by re-orienting veterinary medicine education for fostering academic excellence, inculcating entrepreneurship in postgraduates and addressing key concerns in quality assurance. He further acknowleged the guidance and the support of Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda, the Vice-Chancellor of the University for meticulous organization of the conference. Delegates were very happy with Punjabi hospitality and the way the conference was organised and executed.
