The 1st National Conference of Society of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension (SVAHE) is going on at the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana on the theme “Push to Livestock Farming through Knowledge Empowerment of the Farmers”. On 2nd day of conference, three technical sessions were held in which scientists exhibited their presented improved methodologies related to developing Livestock Extension Policy Framework and Knowledge Dissemination Tools for Empowerment. Besides, five poster sessions on various subjects related to development/ impact of veterinary extension methodologies on knowledge transfer and technologies/ proven practices for sustainable livestock production were held. In these papers, scientists showcased their research findings and suggested approaches for better dissemination of knowledge from research labs to end users. Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director ATARI, Ludhiana, Dr. S. R. Garg, Director Extension, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar, Dr. S.N.S. Randhawa, Director Research and Dr. Amrit Lal Saini, Head, Livestock and Production Management, GADVASU and renowned scientists in animal extension field were the experts during these sessions and selected best oral and poster presentations. Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director, Extension Education, GADVASU and Organizing Secretary of SVAHE conference told that the best Oral and Poster research papers will be presented awards in concluding session of the conference.
Dr. Manoj Sharma from KVK Kapurthala discussed on the technology transfer module of Krishi Vigyan Kendra for the welfare of Dairy farmers. Dr. M.K. Chatli, Professor cum Head, Department of Livestock Products Technology, GADVASU, Ludhiana was of the view that processing and value addition have a great impact for sustainability of livestock industry in India. Discussions were made on mobile advisory services in Dairy farming, impact analysis of vocational training on scientific Dairy farming. A point of discussion was held on analysis of constraints in the traditional methods of extension communication and solutions thereof by information and Communication technology (ICT) tools. Dr. Channappagouda from Karnataka discussed on Veterinarians’ perception of livestock services delivery.
Experts were of the view that existing KVKs should also be strengthened by analyzing the existing constraints. For the overall socio-economic and socio-cultural development of the farming/livestock society, gender based empowerment should be revisited. A comprehensive web-based information portal should be made available to cater to the beneficiaries on all aspects of Animal Husbandry Extension activities. Hence a comprehensive approach is needed rather than working in isolation.
Emphasis was also laid on transfer of technology regarding value added production and zero wastage technology for the upliftment of the farming community.
