College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a youth program for promoting the culture of non-violence in commemoration of ‘International Day of Nonviolence’ on October 02, under the auspices of the UNO. The world celebrated ‘International Day of Nonviolence’ on the day of Gandhi Jayanthi. Dr Meera D Ansal said that nowadays, due to increasing instance of strife and anxiety, society demands that we should introduce our young generation to the gains of nonviolence in day-to-day life. To celebrate the ‘International Day of Nonviolence’ Considering the importance of nonviolence for healthy atmosphere, as part of students’ activities, College of Fisheries organized a ‘Poster Competition’ with the theme of ‘Nonviolence’, which was conducted under the supervision of college Dance Drama and Music Club in-charge Dr. Shanthanagouda A H. The event was sponsored by the faculty of the college. Seven teams having three participants in each team participated in the competition. A panel of judges selected three best posters and the winners were awarded with cash prize by Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries. While addressing the students; she appreciated the enthusiasm expressed
by the students for participating in the event. She also shared few words regarding ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ which was launched a year ago on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. She advised the students to keep their surroundings clean in addition to abiding to nonviolence to pay true homage to the ‘Father of the Nation’. All the students participated in the event with a great zeal, which has certainly inspired them to adopt the path of nonviolence for the welfare of mankind. In addition, during the event two undergraduate students Baljot Singh Maan and Gulgul Singh of the college narrated life history of ‘Father of the Nation’, highlighting his commitment towards non-violence and the power of peace in combating oppression and hatred. The event ended with the message as ‘Satyameva Jayate’ (Truth Alone Triumphs).
