Department of Veterinary Pathology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University have bagged two extramural Research Projects. Projects were earned by Two Assistant Professors and they will be Principal Investigators (P.I.). Dr. H.S. Banga, HoD said that Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi approved the project entitled “Comprehending role of mucosa associated immunity during Avibacterium paragallinarum infection in chickens and Japanese quails for developing futuristic mucosal vaccine” by Drs. Sidhartha Deshmukh (P.I), H.S. Banga, R.S. Brar, S.Sodhi, Anish Thakur (Co-PIs) under its Extramural Research Scheme programme. The total budget of the scheme is Approximately 34 lakhs. The project is based on the studying the pathogenesis and immune responses in Infectious coryza disease in poultry, which is a cause of great economic losses to poultry farmers. In the study work will be carried out on understanding the immune responses in chickens and Japanese quails to pave way for making a futuristic vaccine against infectious coryza.
Dr. Nitin Dev Singh, Assistant Professor got the approval letter of his project entitled “Studies on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in acute and chronic lung injury” which was submitted under the Start Up Grant for Young Scientists programme funded by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi. The total amount of the project is approximately 23 Lakhs. The project is aimed at understanding the pathogenesis and the complex transition of epithelial tissue due to lung injury in both livestock and humans. New therapeutics including alternates to antibiotics such as herbal drugs, probiotics etc. will be tried which will not only help in decreasing the antibiotic resistance in animals and humans, but may also decrease the risk of antibiotic residues in animal body.
Dr. Banga, said that securing the research projects will give a positive flip to the confidence of the young faculty of the department.
