Vet Varsity organises Kisan Sammelan at Krishi VigyanKendra

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana’s Krishi Vigyan Kendar (KVK), Barnala has organised a one day” Kissan Samelan Kharif -2015”, at village Handiaya. Dr. H.K.Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana Chaired this event and he urged to the farmers to take benefit of services provided by GADVASU Ludhiana and by KVK, Barnala for the farming community for improvement of their livelihood. He also further explained that the GADVASU, Ludhiana is playing vital role in livestock development in Punjab and dairy farming has large scope to solve the problem of unemployment in the state. Dr. Verma visited KVK, farm and inspect the administrative building of KVK which is under construction. He also visited the Demonstration unit “Apiary” at KVK. Dr.P.S.Tanwar, Deputy Director (Training) KVK, Barnala presented a brief note on activities of KVK and he motivated to the farmers for soil and water testing before starting the cultivation. Dr. Tanwar also emphasized to adopt the scientific manner in crop production and rearing the livestock. He also stated that KVK is providing vocational trainings to the rural youth for self-employment in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry. Dr. S.K Kansal explained the various diseases and their control in livestock. Dr. Parminder Sing discussed about feeding management of Dairy animals.
Dr. Munish Sharma emphasized on crop diversification through horticulture crops. Dr. Kamaldeep Singh Matharu explained role of beneficial insect in crop protection. Dr. Surinder Singh urged to farmers to adopt the tensiometer technology for saving of irrigation water in rice crop and use of leaf colour chart (LCC) for nitrogen management in rice crop. Dr. Y.S. Jadaun discussed on management of dairy animals during rainy season. More than 175 farmers and farm women participated in this event from various villages.
The latest technologies of agriculture and animal husbandry were demonstrated in exhibition stalls. A Self-help group was put the various type of pickles for sale. Mineral mixture and literature was also displayed and sold to the farmers. At the end of this event a quiz completion was also arranged for the farmers and winner farmers were awarded on the spot.
