In spite of cooperative attitude of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University authorities daily paid labourers (DPL) and Contract employees of Varsity have been trying to pressurize administration on their uncalled-for demands by sitting on Dharna since 15 June 2015. These views were expressed by Dr Sushil Prabhakar, Registrar regarding contractual employees who are on strike for the last three weeks demanding regularization of their jobs and increase in tenure of their contract period. He said that these employees had filed a writ petition in hon’ble High Court for the same. University has different farms like Dairy, Poultry, Fisheries and Student’s training farms. Even we have research farms at out stations and the field also to carry out research activities. Work of university is adversely affected due to non-cooperative attitude of the workers. Dr Prabhakar informed that university has issued appointment letters to 110 employees to renew their contract but only 2 employees have joined so far. The Vice-Chancellor, Dean Veterinary Science College, DSW cum EO and Registrar have met the employees to resolve their grievances. The employees have refused to meet the Registrar despite two different attempts to arrange their meeting with the Vice-Chancellor. Registrar said that this type of rigid and pressurising attitude is unjustified when the matter is in court. Some outside organisations are also supporting the agitating employees resulting in their distraction. While talking about employees welfare, he said that these persons were employed as DPL on DC rate wages of Rs. 4500/- but in consideration of inflation and humanitarian ground their salary was enhanced to Rs. 9000/- in four years. They were also shifted from DPL to Contractual employees. Their Contract was renewed from time to time. There was no provision in their service conditions for regularization of service, increment benefits, dearness allowance or any other allowance. Dr Prabhakar said that university is bound to follow the guidelines of hon’ble court. However he appealed the employees to join their duties for betterment of their future and in interest of university working.
