NSS Cell of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana observed World Anti-Terrorism Day-2015 in the campus for spreading the message of global peace and non-violence. NSS volunteers of GADVASU alongwith Dr Syed Shabih Hassan, coordinator NSS observed a 2 minute silence to express grief over the damage caused by terrorism world-wide and to oppose violence and promote peace among people and also work for the communal/social harmony collectively. Dr Hassan conducted pledge ceremony on national integration and volunteers took national integrity pledge batch-wise as “We, the people of India, having abiding faith in our country`s tradition of non-violence and tolerance, hereby solemnly affirm to oppose with our strength, all forms of terrorism, crime and violence. We pledge to uphold and promote peace, social harmony, and understand among all fellow human beings and fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives and values”.
A slogan competition was organized on this occasion and volunteers appeared with good response having lots of messages. The aim was to stop the youth towards radicalization and polarization by involving volunteers in productive works. NSS volunteers also provided water and rice grains/bajra to resident birds, livestock, plants in campus for making peaceful surroundings and natural atmosphere. A lecture was delivered by Dr Hassan on “Terrorism and Non-violence in the Society! Let us Pledge to become Non-violent”. He outlined that we must examine the menace of terror creator, terrorist harbinger, crime plotter and find out root cause of terrorism and crime. He added that it is the duty of people to promote peace and discourage violence in society. Many volunteers raised voice for various social crimes and constraints on emerging social issues. He said that NSS throughout the country has proved its righteous stance seeking to resist the oppressors and assist the oppressed. He appealed volunteers to educate more and more people and motivate them to become non-violent and peaceful as well as to prevent from alleviation of sufferings from hunger, poverty and disparity in society.
