NABARD Chief General Manager visits Vet Varsity

Sh. Naresh Gupta, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Punjab Regional Office, visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University to have an overview of the NABARD funded projects being implemented in GADVASU. In this visit he interacted with Dr. AS Nanda, Vice- Chancellor. It is worth mentioning that different construction projects in Varsity are in progress with support from NABARD. Construction of College of Fisheries, New Demonstration Milk Plant unit, Building of School of Animal Biotechnology and Veterinary referral Hospital is going on. Sh. Gupta was taken around the construction sites to have a first-hand view of the state of construction of the projects. He was of the opinion that the tie-up that NABARD had with GADVASU in implementing the Area Development Scheme based on dairy for the last 3 years would be taken up at the new level. He said that after completion of these projects Varsity would bring in its expertise arising out of various research projects being taken in the University to be transferred for economic benefit to the dairy farmers. It was more so imperative that innovative solutions for enhancement of income opportunities be provided to the farmers, so that the vagaries of the climate that the farmers had to endear could be mitigated to a certain extent through lab to field initiatives, wherein NABARD and GADVASU had an innovative role to play.

Dr A S Nanda appreciated the role of NABARD in Nation building. He said that the NABARD assisted projects of University will strengthen the services to farmers and academics to students. He revealed that new Veterinary Hospital will contain all the diagnostic facilities under one roof which will include radiology, endoscopy, ultrasound, echocardiography, clinical laboratory and operation theatres with all advanced diagnostic equipment. It will serve the best clinical teaching for the undergraduate/postgraduate veterinarians along with the best treatment to the sick animals. The Building of School of Animal Biotechnology will have state of the art laboratories, lecture/seminar halls and Central instrumentation lab with self-contained facilities to fulfill the research mandates. He added that new building of College of Fisheries will be more equipped not only to serve the State but also the northern region by producing scientifically trained quality human resource and generating need based region specific technologies for higher sustainable fish production from both culture and capture sector.  New Demonstration Milk Plant unit will enhance the services of College of Dairy Science & Technology in more modern way. He hoped that in future the institute will float more projects with financial support from NABARD.

Dr S P S Sangha DSW cum Estate Officer said that the construction is on normal track and he hoped that the projects will be completed in stipulated period.
