Limited Over Cricket And Football Tournaments At Vet Varsity Hostel

Cricket’s most popular 20-20 format tournament Indian premier league (IPL) is going on these days. Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University students also organized a limited over (10 -10 overs) cricket tournament named as GADVASU Premier League (GPL) in hostel no. 3 of GADVASU. A total of 16 teams from all the GADVASU boys hostels participated in the event. More than 125 students participated in the event.  Some of the participating teams include Dairy Daredevils, Dairy revengers, Vets 7, Dirty 7 and others. League matches were organized and qualifying teams played semi finals.  Final match was played between teams ‘Dirty 7’ and ‘Dairy Daredevils’ In which ‘Dirty 7’ emerged as GPL champions 2015 by beating his opponent. Mr. Upkardeep Singh was declared as man of the match in the final as well as man of the series and best batsman. Mr. Hussan Malik was decided as best bowler of tournament due to his consistent performance. Fair play team’ award was won by teams ‘Vets 7’, ‘Blue Panther’ and ‘Hawa Club’.

Similarly a limited over Football tournament named as GADVASU Football League (GFL) was also organized in hostel no. 3 of GADVASU. A total of 12 teams precipitated in the tournament. Approximately 100 students from different colleges of GADVASU participated in the league. Final match was played between ‘7 Devils’ and ‘Unreal Madrid’. At the end ‘7 Devils’ won the thrilling final which was decided by penalty shoot outs. ‘Fair play team’ award was also won by ‘7 Devils’. Mr. Varinder Ludher was declared as best goal keeper.  

Dr. M.S. Bal, Warden Hostel No. 3, Dr. B.S. Sandhu, Warden Hostel no. 9 and Dr. Rajsukhbir, Warden Hostel No. 8 distributed the awards/ trophies to winner and runner up teams. Dr. Bal told that these tournament are organized every year and students are encouraged to indulge in sports and extracurricular activities. Further he assured full support from all the wardens of respective hostels in organizing such events. Dr. B. S. Sandhu, Warden Hostel no. 9 said that sports are integral parts of student life and each student must spare some time for physical activities.
