A seven days NSS Special Winter Camp with the motto “Youth for Sustainable Development with Special Focus on Wetlands/Watershed Management and Wasteland Development” was organized by NSS unit of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana under the supervision of NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr Syed Shabih Hassan. Students/NSS volunteers around 80 of two colleges viz. College of Fisheries (COF), College of Dairy Science and Technology (CODST), GADVASU participated in special camp with recitation of NSS song. The Camp was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr S. P. S. Sangha, DSW-cum-EO, GADVASU, Ludhiana besides Dr Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries. Dr Pramod Dada, Director, School for Deaf Children, Ludhiana was guest of honour. The guest lecture was delivered by S. Devender Singh Lotey, Assistant Director, Youth Services, Punjab. Dr. furnished the activities undertaken by NSS volunteers under his guidance and emphasized on the development of morality, ethics and positive attitude. Dr. Hassan told that wetlands help in flood control, groundwater replenishment, storm protection, sediment & nutrient retention, climate change mitigation, water purification, recreation & tourism. Dr. S. P. S. sangha honored NSS badges and memento to Dr Pramod Dada, Dr. Asha Dhawan, S. Devender Singh Lotey, Dr. Syed Shabih Hassan, Dr. Siva Kumar and forty five active NSS volunteers. During inaugural function in forenoon session, motivational lecture was delivered by Devender Singh Lotey on the topic “Role of NSS volunteers in environment preservation and community welfare, he briefly covered many social problems and outlined to develop positive attitude on environment awareness and community development. Dr. S.P.S. Sangha, emphasized to develop good deeds and work for the social upliftment of the community.
