The Faculty and postgraduate students of the Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana won three Gold Medals at 38th Annual Congress of Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery (ISVS) and International Symposium. The subject of the Congress was “New Horizons of Camel Surgery and Large Ruminant Surgery” held at Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner, Rajasthan. The conference was attended by more than 450 surgeons from all over India and abroad.
The GADVASU surgeons and PG students presented 10 research papers in various sessions. Dr. N. S. Saini, Professor-cum-Head, presented a lead paper in the Ruminant Surgery Session entitled “An Approach to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Surgical Disorders of Forestomach in Ruminants” which was highly appreciated by the senior colleagues and delegates.
In Equine Surgery session, the paper entitled “Recognizing and Managing the Equine Colic Surgical Patients: A Clinical Study of 17 patients” authored by Drs. Arun Anand, S.S. Singh, Arashdeep Kaur, J. Mohindroo, S.K. Mahajan & N.S. Saini won the Gold Medal for Best Paper.
In Ruminant Surgery session, the paper entitled “Ultrasonographic localization and Mineral Profile of Urinary Calculi in Young and Adult Bovine Animals” authored by Drs. Prachi E. Taksande, N.S. Saini, J. Mohindroo, Tarunbir Singh and Ashwani Kumar was adjudged Best paper of the session and won gold medal.
In Orthopedic Surgery session, the paper entitled “Static Intramedullary Interlocking Nailing for Tibial Fracture Repair in Large Animals” authored by M. Raghunath, V. Prabhakar, Ashwani, S.S. Singh, T. Singh and J. Mohindroo also won Gold Medal.
During this conference Dr. N.S. Saini, acted as chairman in Radiology and Imaging Technique session and Dr. Arun Anand acted as Rapporteur in the Equine Surgery session.
Dr. Parminder Kaur (PG student) received a Gold Medal and Certificate for the Best paper in the Radiology and Imaging Technique session for the paper entitled “Ultrasonography of the Equine Flexor Tendon and Suspensory Ligament : Normal versus Abnormal” co-authored by Drs. J. Mohindroo, S.S. Singh, S.K. Mahajan and Neelam Bansal.
