Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) inks MoU with Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC) to address zoonotic and environmental concerns. Dr. V K Taneja stated that “One Health” solutions to combat current and emerging diseases which are a threat to population, animal and environment is picking up momentous and is the best option as many infectious diseases are of animal origin and zoonotic. He stated that while GADVASU has strengthened in areas of zoonoses, molecular diagnostics and herbal medicine, we shall seek training support in diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology, dentistry, and minimal invasive surgery from DMC.
Dr Daljit Singh, Principal DMC and Dr. G.S. Wander, Director and Chief Cardiologist and other specialists from DMC who visited research facilities and programs of GADVASU appreciated the quality work being done. They expressed their keenness to collaborate so as to reduce sufferings of both animal and human beings.
Both GADVASU and DMC agreed to formulate a work plan to address zoonotic diseases viz. neurocysticercosis, brucellosis and leptospirosis. They also agreed to submit a collaborative project to Govt. of Punjab to look into the higher incidence of cancer in Malwa belt through analysis of environmental parameters as related to residues and heavy metals in animals and human populations.
