Faculty and students of Department of Veterinary Gyanecology and Obstetrics, GADVASU, Ludhiana attended XXIXth Annual Convention and national symposium on “Frontier Reproductive Biotechnologies for Enhanced Animal Fertility and Fecundity: Global Perspective” held at Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur from January 8-10, 2014.
Dr Khushpreet Singh, M.V.Sc. student of this department presented a paper entitled “Breeding Soundness Evaluation of High and Low Libido Breeding Buffalo Bulls” and was bestowed with “Best Young Scientist Award” by the Indian Society for Study of Animal Reproduction (ISSAR) for best scientific paper presentation. This paper was co-authored by Drs Ajeet Kumar and M Honparkhe. The clinical information on breeding soundness evaluation of high and low libido breeding bulls on the basis of rump fat thickness and evaluation of internal and external genitalia using ultrasonography was widely applauded by the scientists. It was opined that such work will help in setting up the parameters for screening of high fertility bulls.
Dr Rooh-ul Amin, PhD student of this department also bagged “Best Young Scientist Award” by the Indian Society for Study of Animal Reproduction (ISSAR) for best scientific paper presentation for his M.V.Sc. thesis work.
Dr Ajeet Kumar, Assistant Professor of this department presented his paper on “Identification of Heat Shock Protein 70 (HSP70) in fresh and cryopreserved beef bull semen” and was awarded with best presentation award. HSP70 was investigated in fresh and cryopreserved beef bull semen using electrophoresis and immunoblotting technique. It was found that HSP70 gets damaged during cryopreservation which affects semen quality.
Dr M Honparkhe, Assistant Gynaecologist acted as rappoteur in a scientific session “Artificial insemination and andrology”. Dr. V K Gandotra, Professor presented a lead paper entitled “Pregnancy loss in dairy buffalo” and chaired a session entitled “Reproduction and fertility in females (basics and obstetrics)”. Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Professor and Head of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics presented a lead paper entitled “Postpartum complications in dairy animals”. The quality of research work conducted at GADVASU, Ludhiana and presentation skill of the students was well appreciated in the respective scientific sessions.
