Volunteers of National Service Scheme of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana supported the Cycle Rally-2013 on the theme “Building India Safe for Wo men Rally started on 9th November 2013 to 25th November from Srinagar to New Delhi organised by Jamia Millia IUniversity and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (NSS), New Delhi. It was sponsored by ONGC Videsh, ONGC, Steel Authority of India Limited, Media Partner, Take, News which covers 1121 Km passing through the state of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh (UT), Haryana and Delhi. GADVASU was acting as participating members of Rally. Dr Syed Shabih Hassan, NSS Programme Coordinator and more than 75 volunteers of GADVASU NSS units welcomed the Rally. The welcome speech and interaction session with the participants was organised in the committee room of Parker Guest house. Dr S. S. Hassan stressed on the need to work for the safety, security of women in general so that increasing number of rape, molestation and atrocities can be eliminated and India become safe heaven specially for the women as well as men. Dr Hassan also highlighted the work done by NSS volunteers of GADVASU on various
social issues, community welfare, plantation, blood donation, health care and environment preservation activities. Professor N. U. Khan, incharge of Rally was speaking about his where as Dr Abid Zaidi, Assistant Director, revealed about the response of public related to awareness message on the women`s problems from Srinagar to Ludhiana. The chief guest of the interaction session S. Tara Singh Sandhu, Deputy Controller interacted with the organising members and participants of cycle rally. Mr Sandhu also addresssed to volunteers about women`s safety and security. Dr Darshan Singh Aulakh, Welfare officer, Dr Amit Kumar of CODST, and NSS member Mr Lajpal Singh Bains were present on the occasion. Dr Satinder Pal Singh Sangha, DSW-cum-EO, GADVASU was acted as Chief guest of flag off ceremony of rally. Dr Sangha interacted with incharge, organiser and participating members of JMI Cycle Rally-2013 and extended good wishes to them.
