Specialized Training course on Dairy Farming concludes at GADVASU

Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a week long “Specialized Training Programmes on Dairy Farming” in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). About 18 farmers participated in this training programme.  Mr R K Sharma, DGM State Bank of Patiala, Punjab was chief guest at the occasion. He said that no doubt Punjab is contributing more than 9 % of milk towards national milk grid but still there is tremendous potential in Punjab to enhance further productivity of animals through genetic improvement and adoption of scientific practices. Bankers are ready to finance the dairy projects of farmers in order to achieve such goals.  Dr Baswas, AGM, NABARD, Chandigarh said that in this progressive age one must equip himself with latest know how of various entrepreneurship including dairy farming. That’s why NABARD trying its best to enhance the scientific knowledge of the dairy farmers of the Punjab. Mr M S Jaggi, Lead Bank Manager, Ludhiana appreciated the NABARD efforts to get the dairy farmers trained with latest knowledge.

Dr J S Bhatti, Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education told that the Department is continuously organizing training programmes on all species of livestock (dairy, piggery, goat, poultry, rabbit and fish farming) and also tailor made training programmes as per demand. Dr R.S. Sahota, Director Extension Education told that due to many options in livestock farming, Dairy is the best viable option for self employment for the unemployed youth because every farmer in the state have some dairy animals and can expand easily after getting basic training from Veterinary varsity. Kansal, Course Coordinator of this training programme revealed that the participants were very progressive and enthusiastic to know more about the scientific knowledge about dairy farming. The information regarding milch breeds of animals, balanced feeding of dairy animals, housing, vaccination, deworming, infertility problems, right time of insemination, clean milk production, marketing of milk and milk products were provided to the farmers. All the participants who underwent this training were highly appreciative of the course structure, the state of art facility and the high quality of training imparted during the programme. All the participants showed keen interest to procure the university literature.
