GADVASU holds workshop on “Developing Winning Research Proposals

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized two days workshop on “Developing winning Research Proposals” was conducted by experts from National Academy for Agriculture Research and Management (NAARM),ICAR, Hyderabad. The inaugural session was presided over by Dr SNS Randhawa, Director of Research GADVASU. Dr. Randhawa welcomes the distinguished scientists from NAARM, Hyderabad and encouraged the faculty as well as PG students to actively participate in the workshop. In this workshop, Dr. Rama Rao, Principle Scientist, Division of Information and Communication Management in NAARM along with his team members Dr. SM Virmani, Fellow of NAAS, Retd. Chief Scientist, ICRISAT, Hyderabad and Dr. J. Challa, Retd. Principal scientist, NAARM addressed the participants in eight technical sessions regarding the development of good research proposals for submission to national and international funding agencies across the country and abroad.
Dr. SM Virmani stressed upon writing research hypothesis and the importance of formulating objectives and appropriate key words in a research proposal. Dr. Challa talked on proposal budget preparation and stressed that it is the core issue in proposal preparation. A well prepared proposal with well prepared budget has greater chances of securing extra-mural funding. He informed that it is important to have ethical touch to the proposal without inflating or deflating project expenditure. Dr. Rama Rao discussed in detail on results frame work which is another important step that is need to keep in mind during proposal preparation. Results prepared in logical frame work keeps you on track and focused. 
Dr. A. Bandopadhay, National coordinator, National Fund ICAR also attended the workshop and interacted with the faculty members and students of GADVASU. He encouraged and guided the scientists to formulate winning research proposal in national fund scheme of ICAR and other funding agencies. He also visited the departments and schools of GADVASU, interacted with the Scientists and appreciated the facilities created for undertaking basic and applied research in GADVASU in last six years.

         The concluding session on 12th evening was chaired by Dr. V.K. Taneja, Vice- Chancellor, GADVASU, who motivated the scientists to submit good extra-mural research proposals and stressed upon the importance of research projects to earn external funding in the coming years. In 2006, University had 12 earned research project worth Rs. 76 Lakhs. This number has grown to 46 projects worth over Rs. 950 Lakhs during the year 2011-12. He hoped that this type of training will encourage the scientists to actively participate in research and be part of large projects to fill critical research gaps. It was included this training shall help our scientists to earn more research grants and undertake research for high quality output as a number of extra mural funding agencies will be inviting research proposals in the 12th plan.
