Behind the facade of ‘welcoming’ new students to college, ‘ragging’ is a notorious practice wherein the senior students get an excuse to harass their junior counterparts, and make them easy targets To curb the menace of ragging in institutes of higher education, as per the directives of University grants commission College of Dairy Science and Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University conducted a meeting of faculty with old and fresh students to discuss the anti ragging issue. Dr. Amandeep Sharma said that aim of the meeting was to create cordial relationship between junior and senior students.
The students of the college were made aware regarding acts and punishments pertaining to ragging activity. Students were informed about anti ragging committee constituted at college level to help them in case need arises. The students were notified about number of posters displayed in campus giving detailed description of Hon’ble Supreme Court directives and penalty liable to be imposed on those involved in such activities.
The old students and new entrants shared their views regarding studies and their hobbies at this common platform. The old students assured their full cooperation to the new entrants.
Dr. Amandeep Sharma informed the students about mobile telephone numbers of anti ragging committee members so that freshers may contact when the need arises. Students were asked to report anti ragging issues if there is any. Whole programme was organized with active efforts of Dr. Sharma, Dr. PK Singh, Dr. Amit , Dr. Inderpreet and Dr. Gopika. The meeting was concluded on the note that no student should be a mute witness to ragging and every student should strive towards creating a ragging free atmosphere in the institute.
