International workshop at Vet Varsity on "Elements of Research"

A international workshop on “Elements of research: Defining, designing and structuring a research problem” was inaugurated by Dr J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. In his inaugural address he congratulated the organizing team for this endeavour and hoped that it would be helpful for the post graduate students to boost their research skills from planning their research project to writing reports.

This three day workshop will conclude on 18th October at the School of Public Health and Zoonoses. This was organized in collaboration with University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Dr JPS Gill informed that overseas speakers from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, University of Sydney, Australia and US Department of Agriculture, (USDA) will be delivering their lectures. They will be talking about the fundamentals of research, designing the research studies as well as how to report research findings. On the inaugural day Dr. Emily Jenkins talked about the qualities of a successful post graduate student. Dr Peter Thompson from USDA discussed about the approaches for the effective reading of research articles.  

Dr RS Aulakh, Director, School of Public Health, and the co-ordinator of this workshop, informed that there will be hands on practice on study design, sample size estimation and quantitative and qualitative analysis of research images. He further informed that GADVASU and the University of Saskatchewan signed an MOU to promote, strengthen and expand mutual contacts and collaborative research activities between both the universities. Organizing workshops, and summer/winter schools is an integral part of these collaborative activities. More than 60 postgraduate students from various departments of GADVASU are attending this workshop, and will take benefits from this workshop.

Dr. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the School of Public Health & Zoonoses for this endeavour and hoped that the participants will apply the skills learnt in the workshop in their research work.
