INDEPENDENCE DAY FERVOUR AT GADVASU

62nd Independence Day was celebrated at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana with great enthusiasm. Dr. VK Taneja, Vice–Chancellor, GADVASU unfurled the National Flag at 8.35 am in the University premises. He inspected the NCC Cadets. Dr.Taneja, first paid rich tributes to all those who fought for country’s freedom. He said that we all must remember and salute them. In his address ,Vice Chancellor described the development of the country . Dr. Taneja said that India is still at its developing stage. Illiteracy, terrorism poverty are main hurdles which are casting shadow on the growth of the country. About 30 crore people in this country are illiterates and living below poverty line. Govt.  is making efforts to provide free and compulsory education to 6-14 years age group. The causes of terrorism and poverty are being addressed on priority. Further, Dr Taneja highlighted the contents of Prime Minister’s speech that the development of our country is going at a good pace. This needs to be followed sacredly, so that India becomes a developed country and the similar pace of developments should also be followed in GADVASU for achieving the same.

      Dr. Taneja highlighted that GADVASU during its short span of establishment has initiated many collaborative and institutional projects for livestock development and production. Our focus in research is on clean milk production, value addition, quality control and byproducts technology development. He said that human resource development and technology transfer is the key for livestock improvement and the GADVASU proposes to reach farmers to provide the technologies. Dr Taneja informed that to strengthen the facilities of University We are working very hard to make this institution of world fame through advanced computer networking, appropriate Lab renovations as well Ultra Modern Library along with other necessary amenities. He explained the achievements of different Directorates and Departments He mentioned the National record setter cow in Milk production, achievement of embryo transfer technology, different projects, conferences, workshops and seminars.       

Dr. Taneja informed that dairy farming is considered to be the economically most viable enterprise today. Growth rate of 4% for milk can be increased to 6%. The economically viability of dairy sector can be further improved by value added milk products. This requires the development of trained human resource in product development technologies, quality assurance and marketing strategies. GADVASU has started College of Dairy Science and Technology and Fisheries College, so that needed human resources are  available. The function was attended by Officers of the GADVASU, Heads of Departments, faculty, staff and students. The celebrations were concluded with   National Anthem performed by  the students of College of Veterinary Science.
