A cow from Dairy Farm of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University Ludhiana, has created a new National milk production record by producing 10493 kg milk in a standard lactation period of 305 days in its third lactation. A herd of outstanding crossbred cows with an average lactation yield of 5877 kg has been established at the Dairy Farm of GADVASU, Ludhiana. One of its cows numbered FC-1133 set the record and is still in lactation and is expected to complete its current third lactation by producing more than 12000 kg milk. This is the best milk production record of a crossbred cow amongst the Govt. institutional Dairy Farms of the country and is comparable to milk yield of cows in dairy developed countries like USA, Israel, Denmark etc.
This cow was born on 23.08.03 at the University Dairy Farm. Its Dam (mother) is a crossbred cow born at the University and Sire (father) is a Holstein Friesian bull of Denmark. This cow has 87.5 % Holstein Friesian, 6.25 % Red Dane and 6.25 % Sahiwal inheritance. This cow calved for the first time at the age of 23 months. It has attained a peak yield of 47.2 kg in its current third lactation. The average Fat, SNF, Protein & Lactose percentage of the milk of this cow is 3.5, 8.4, 3.0 & 4.9 percent respectively.
