Dr. S. N. S. Randhawa, Research Advisor retires from the Vet Varsity

September 29 Expiring at: May 10

 Dr. S. N. S. Randhawa, Research Advisor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) retired from the University service after completing his term as Research Advisor. He served in various capacities in PAU and GADVASU for a period of about 38 years.  He started his career in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, PAU and subsequently served in that department as Associate Professor, Professor as well as Head, of the Department up to 2003 till his elevation to the post of Dean, Postgraduate Studies, GADVASU in May 20, 2010.  He also took over the charge as Director of Research of the University on May 11, 2011 to Sep. 2016.

Dr. Randhawa significantly contributed in the field of Veterinary Medicine. He presented his research work in several national and international conferences in India and abroad. He has more than 300 publications to his credit including invited papers, lectures in national/international conferences.  He visited USA, Canada, France, Italy and Brazil and presented research papers in international conferences for various scientific activities and to learn animal health programmes involving dairy animals and canine practices. He is recipient of about 21 national and international awards. He guided 7 Ph.D and 19 M.V.Sc. students. He has been instrumental in the development of a large number of research projects. During his service period, the University also got international collaborative projects from Canada, UK and Australia. He did pioneering research on production diseases including mastitis in dairy animals as well as mineral imbalances in ruminants.  Area specific mineral mixture was developed for three agro climatic areas of Punjab under his guidance.

He was comprehensively engaged in development and strengthening of Veterinary Sciences, livestock and fishery sciences by making policy decisions, planning, implementation and monitoring of livestock, technical manpower development, development and transfer of technologies through innovative teaching, research and extension services. He actively participated in National Agricultural Research System as Chairman/Member in various committees in ICAR, Department of Science & Technology, State Agricultural Universities’s/Veterinary Universities for formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of livestock programmes.

Dr. A. S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, officers of the university, faculty members and non-teaching staff extended their warm wishes on his retirement.>
