Scientists from 14 states attend National Level Training at GADVASU

 A national level Training course on “Addressing challenges in Veterinary Surgery & Radiology” was concluded today in the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. This 21 days training program was sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research and was held under the aegis of Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT).

Dr J. Mohindroo, Director CAFT and Professor-cum-Head of the Department informed that a total of 59 applications were received for this training course from 17 states of India out of which 25 scientists / teachers were selected for the training. These participants were from 14 states and 19 institutes. This training program was exhaustive and covered the aspects of surgery, anesthesia, minimally invasive techniques and diagnostic imaging in various species of animals like cattle, buffalo, horse, dog and cat. The department has advanced facilities like lens implantation for cataract in dogs, 3D/4D ultrasound, dentistry, laparoscopic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, colic surgery and world class anesthesia equipment. Dr. Navdeep Singh, Professor and Dr N. Umeshwori Devi, Assistant Professor, coordinators for this training course informed that the training module was meticulously planned and over 60 lectures and practical demonstrations by experts from Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh were arranged during the 21 days training programme.

Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean Post Graduate Studies, GADVASU and Coordinator of the Center was the chief guest. He congratulated the faculty members for organizing this training programme and encouraged them to carry on the outstanding work being done in the fields of Anesthesia and Surgery. He said that the Department of Surgery and Radiology is known for providing excellent services to the farmers of Punjab State and the pet owners. Dr. Mohindroo informed that Surgery department has conducted 30 training courses and over 430 surgeons/clinicians from various State Veterinary Universities/ State Agricultural Universities/ICAR Institutes have been trained so far. The trainees thanked the faculty of the Department for exposing them to new surgical techniques as well as for good hospitality and comfortable stay

A compendium of lectures and a CD of presentations of the experts was compiled for the ready reference of the participants and was released during the valedictory function. Dr Navdeep Singh proposed vote of thanks.
