Sankalp Se Siddhi programme organized at Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation

 The New India Manthan: Sankalp Se Siddhi programme was organized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) - Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISCW), Research Center, Chandigarh in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab on 7th September, 2017 at ICAR-IISWC, Research Center- Chandigarh to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement. Sh. Prem Singh Chandumajra Member of Parliament - Fatehgarh Sahib graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The Guest of Honour was Dr. H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana. About 200 farmers from the states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh along with officers attended the programme. On this occasion participants were administered pledge for clean India, poverty-free India, corruption-free India, terrorism-free India, communalism-free India and castesim - free India along with doubling farmers’ income by 2022. One kisan films comprising message from Prime Minister was also screened to sensitize and inspire the farmers.

In inaugural address, the Chief Guest stressed upon coordination between the scientists of various Research and Development organizations and State Government Departments for achieving doubling farmers’ income by 2022. He further emphasized on soil health card and urgent need to decrease cost of inputs in agricultural sector. Availability of water is a key to agricultural production, however, the cost of irrigation is increasing and thus he stressed urgent need to harvest rainwater through farm ponds. Developing efficient marketing system can help farmers in fetching better price of their produce thus realizing doubling of farmer’s income by the year 2022. 

Dr. H.K. Verma spoke about achievements of GADVASU and its contribution for farmers. Dr. Pawan Sharma, Head, Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Center and Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali briefed about the activities and achievement of their respective organizations.

In the function various organizations like Department of Horticulture- Punjab, Department of Agriculture- Punjab, Punjab Dairy Development Board, Punjab National Bank – Farmers Training Center (Fatehgarh), Krishi Vigyan Kendra – Taran Taran, ABS imported Semens, Virbac Ltd., Agriworld, Shivalik Agro engineers, Diplast, ICAR-IISWC-Research Center Chandigarh and Krishi Vigyan Kendra – Mohali displayed their products and activities for the benefit of farmers.

In Technical session, Dr. Munish Sharma discussed about importance of horticulture for diversification and income generation. He informed that PAU Kinnow No. 1 seed less variety has been released for the farmers benefit. Sh. Kuldeep Singh Deputy Director - Dairy discussed about training in dairy management and different schemes available to farmers for dairy development. Sh. Rattan Singh Deputy Director - PNB (Training) apprised about availability of various schemes for benefits of farmers including pension, insurance, jandhan yojna and availability of loan at lower interest rates for farmers.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. S.L. Arya followed by National Anthem.
