Tree Plantation Drive (Van Mahotsav) carried out in Veterinary University Campus

 Landscaping wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University organizes Van Mahotsav (Tree Plantation Drive) in campus with the theme ‘LET THE SCENE BE GREEN’. Tree plantation was carried out in collaboration with NSS wing of university. Tree plantation drive was inaugurated by Dr. A. S. Nanda, Worthy Vice Chancellor, GADVASU. Plantation work was carried out in & around the New Girls Hostel, New Clinics Building, Silver Jubilee block, Dairy Farm, Pashu Palan mela ground and COVS building. A total of 400 plants were planted in different areas of campus. Different types of plants viz; trees (Moulsari, Neem, Pilkhan/Ficus virens, Sukhchain, Amaltas, Gulmohar,  etc.), Fruit trees (Mango, Jamun,  etc.) and shrub plants/small trees (Hamelia, Chandani, Jatropha, Har shingar, Plumeria rubra, Plumeria alba etc.) were also planted. All the university officers (Registrar, DSW cum EO, Director of Extension Education, Dean PGS, Dean COVS, Dean COF, Dean CODST, COE) planted one tree each. Heads of departments and faculty members also participated in the Van Mahotsav. Students from National Social Service (N.S.S.) wing of GADVASU also actively participated in the plantation drive. Dr. A. S. Nanda, worthy Vice-Chancellor, appreciated the tree plantation drive and highlighted the importance of planting trees to protect our nature. Dr. Nanda also emphasized the importance to protect the planted trees and plant more trees in future too, to save our environment.  Plantation work carried out last year was also reviewed and it was ensured that all the planted saplings were protected.

Dr. Satyavan Rampal, DSW cum EO congratulated the team of landscape wing (Dr. M. S. Bal, Sh. Joginder Singh, Sh. Ram Asra & other contractual workers) and Mrs. Nidhi Sharma, Lady welfare officer for organization of tree plantation drive in university campus. Dr. M. S. Bal, Landscaping In-Charge, told that during this monsoon season landscaping wing of GADVASU planted a total of 1050 plants including 400 planted during the present plantation drive. Mrs. Nidhi Sharma, Lady welfare officer and Incharge N.S.S. wing and Dr. M. S. Bal, Landscpaing In-Charge thanked all the Officers, faculty members, students & landscaping staff for participation & successful completion of plantation drive.

Dean, Post Graduates Studies, Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, played a key role in the planning as well as planting of ornamental plants for the beautification of New Veterinary Hospital and shared with the NSS volunteers that it was being anticipated that if the next World War will be fought then it will be for water which is depleting fast due to unabated shrinking of forest cover on the globe.
