Vocational training course on "Fish Farming"

 Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Handiaya (Barnala) organized a vocational training on “Fish Farming under the guidance of Dr. Prahalad Singh Tanwar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Barnala. A total 28 rural youth and farmers from 16 villages of Barnala and Bathinda districts were participated in the training programme. Dr. P. S. Tanwar inaugurated the training by welcoming all the trainees. He emphasized that farmers can utilize their own resources in better way by adopting fish farming and  may get extra income for their livelihood.

Sh. Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries), KVK, Barnala gave theoretical and practical knowledge on different types of fishes, their identification, breeding of carp fishes, rearing of carp fishes in nursery and production ponds, their integration with agriculture and livestock farming systems for efficient recycling of waste, preparation of value added fish products, various diseases and their control, seasonal management, preparation of fish feed and management of fish pond in detail. More emphasis was given on practical aspects of the fish farming.

Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, Assistant Professor (Plant protection), gave lecture on integrated fish cum agriculture. Dr. Suryendra Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), delivered a lecture on Integrated farming system. Dr. Harjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), delivered a lecture on Integrated fish cum horticulture crops. Dr. Surender Singh, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production), gave detailed knowledge on livestock management practices and integration of fish cum livestock farming. Dr. Bhanu Prakash, Assistant Professor (Fisheries), KVK, Tarn Taran gave lecture on Pangas catfish culture to the trainees.

Mr. Harwinder Singh, Senior Fishery Officer, Barnala also gave detailed information on the Punjab government scheme to starting fish farming as subsidiary occupation.
