Krishi Vigyan Kendra, GADVASU, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a vocational ‘Specialized Pig Farming’ at its Campus. Twenty seven farmers (26 males and 1 female) belonging to different villages of Distt. Tarn Taran has participated in the training course. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of pig farming was devised in this training for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers for economic upliftment.
Speaking in the inaugural session of the training programme, Dr. Balwinder Kumar Deputy Director (Training) and Course Director, stressed upon the development of skill of the rural population of the Tarn Taran. Such type of trainings helps farmers, farm women, and rural youth in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship through livestock diversification. Pig farming is gaining momentum in state and can be a good source of earning from this venture. Dr. Kumar also highlighted various facilities developed and provided by GADVASU and KVK for the benefit of farming community.
Course Coordinators, Dr Shashi Pal, Dr Anil Kumar and Sh. Navjot Singh provided insight to the trainees through lectures on different topics. The focus and topics covered in this training course by KVK faculty and experts from college of Veterinary Sciences of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. They discussed mainly on preparation of pig house, feed management, different species of pig, fodder/feed management for pigs, marketing of pig, value addition of pig products, integration of pig and fish enterprises, etc. Visit of the farmers was also organized at Pig Farm, Sarhali Kalan for apprising the farmers about different operations and required technical inputs for pig farming.
The coordinators proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the trainees and visiting guest and faculty for the efforts to make this training programme a success.
