Vet Varsity Scientist earns prestigious Fulbright Fellowship

 Dr Chandra Sekhar Mukhopadhyay, Assistant Scientist of the School of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has been bestowed with Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Award (2016-17). Fulbright fellowship is awarded every year to selected scholars of over 125 nations by Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program for promoting cutting edge research, quality teaching and international cultural exchange. As a part of this fellowship programme he spent nine months at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa in the Lab of Prof. James Reecy. His research work aimed at statistical modelling of the uniparentally expressed genes using whole genome marker data in cattle. The work will be useful in identifying similar genes in our indigenous animals in Punjab and India. During this time Dr Mukhopadhyay attended several Conferences/Workshops and presented his work conducted at GADVASU on micro-RNA in buffalo. He also participated in different socio-cultural events organized at the Iowa State University by the international students’ association and International Students and Scholars organization (ISSO). Dr. Ramneek, Director, School of Animal Biotechnology congratulated Dr Mukhopadhyay for bringing laurels to the institute. Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean, Post Graduate Studies while congratulating Dr C S Mukhopadhyay exhorted other scientists of the school to emulate Dr Mukhopadhyay. Dr JPS Gill, Director of Research encouraged Dr Mukhopadhyay to initiate research collaboration between Iowa State University and GADVASU, Ludhiana.
