Department of Veterinary and animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University organized an animal welfare camp at 
village Chananwal (Barnala) under ICAR project “Integrated Approaches for Livestock Development: Farmer’s Context” under Farmer FIRST model. Dr. H K Verma, DEE cum Nodal officer of project said that 800 families falling from five villages of Mehal Kalan block have been selected for providing healthcare, nutritional interventions and training to rural farmers. In this series, a step was taken by organizing animal welfare camp. A team comprising of Dr Rajesh Kasrija and Dr Khushpreet Singh from Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Dr Rahul Udehiya from Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology and Dr Sujata Tirukar from Department of Veterinary Medicine treated the animal’s cases like upward fixation of patella, repeat breeding, anoestrus, mastitis. hygroma, debility, worm and tick infestation.
A total of 128 animals including cattle, buffalo, goats, dogs were treated for Gynecological, medicine and surgical problems. The farmers were also acquainted with balanced diet for their animals, correct method of acaricide application and clean milk production. Dr S K Kansal, Principal Investigator of the project said that scientists from ATARI, CIPHET & PAU, and Ludhiana are also contributing towards complete upliftment of the beneficiaries. It is pertinent to mention that previously Vegetable kits, Maize seed, Mineral mixture, Uromin blocks were distributed to farmers and activities like the nutritional interventions & field days are already going on in operational area of the project for adopted beneficiaries under this project. The Sarpanch of village S. Gurjant Singh appreciated the innovative act for taking care of animal health care at doorstep and thanked the team for same. Dr Rajesh Kasrija, Incharge of the camp thanked Dr Mandeep Singh, Veterinary officer Chananwal & other staff of Animal Husbandry Department and Sarpanch for their cooperation and for doing a good job.
