Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Handiaya, Barnala celebrated Swachhta Abhiyan in the month of April under the guidance of Dr. P.S. Tanwar (Associate Director) KVK Barnala. Dr Tanwar, motivated the farmers to maintain the cleaning and sanitation, around residence, dairy farm and agriculture farm .He said that cleaning of dairy farm will help in clean milk production and reduce incidence of mastitis in dairy animals and advice to proper disposal of dung, at dairy farm, it may be used in the farm of bio gas plant. Various activities were undertaken at Krishi Vigyan Kendra like, removal of weeds from periphery, collection & burring of polythene and other waste, cleaning of water tank, removal of standing water from coolers, get rid of excess water from the refrigerator, rinsing of R.O water system etc. For, cleaning and beautification of surrounding area green grass was transplanted in front of KVK, building and cemented chairs were fixed for the siting of farmers. Kinnow orchard was also transplanted at KVK. Dr. K.S. Matharu, Astt. Prof. (Plant Protection) delivered lecture on the management of whitefly by removing weeds from the field at village Daraj. Dr Khushvir Singh, Astt. Prof. (Fishries) gave information on the use of village pond as fish farming. Dr. Harjot Singh Sohi, Astt. Prof. (Horticulture) gave knowledge on the cultivation of Button mushroom on the residue of wheat straw. An essay writing completion was also organized at senior secondary school at village Hamidi on ill-effect of residue burning of wheat straw. Dr. Sureyndra Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) explained about the management of weeds in the moong crop.
