Veterinary Varsity for applies approach for livestock health

 Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University has organized animal welfare camp at village Kalala (Block Mehal Kalan, Distt. Barnala) under ICAR sanctioned project “Integrated Approaches for Livestock Development: Farmer’s Context” under Farmer FIRST model. Dr. H K Verma, DEE cum nodal officer of project said that five villages of Mehal Kalan block were selected for providing healthcare, nutritional interventions and training to rural farmers. This project has been sanctioned by ICAR, New Delhi for Barnala district. In this series, a step was taken by organizing animal welfare camp at Village Kalala (District Barnala). In this camp, animals were treated for Gynecological, medicine and surgical problems. A total of 242 animals including cattle, buffalo, goats, pigs and dogs were treated in this camp. The farmers were also acquainted with balanced diet for their animals, correct method of acaricide application. A team comprising of Gynecologist, surgeon and veterinary physician treated the animal’s cases like upward fixation of patella, repeat breeding, anoestrus, mastitis. hygroma, worm and tick infestation etc were treated. 

Dr Rajesh Kasrija, Incharge of the camp appreciate the local staff of Animal Husbandry Departments and villagers for their cooperation and his team for doing a good job. He further added that farmers were gaining economic benefit by getting free of cost treatment of their animals at door step under this project. Dr S K Kansal, Principal Investigator, said that scientists from ATARI, CIPHET & PAU Ludhiana will provide allied animal husbandry inputs to the beneficiaries. Activities like the nutritional interventions & field days are already going on in operational area of the project for beneficiaries of the area. He further added that in future exposure visits for farmers of operational area to Krishi Vigyan Kendras and GADVASU Pashu Palan melas will be organized. S. Jagtar Singh, Member Panchayat has welcomed the innovative act for taking care of animal health care at doorstep and thanked the team for same.
