A national model training course on “Value addition of livestock products and Entrepreneurship development” sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India organized by Department of Livestock Products Technology, GADVASU, Ludhiana has been concluded. This training programme was attended by 17 trainee from different organisation such Department of Animal Husbandry Punjab, Department of Animal Husbandry Uttarakhand, State Agricultural Universities like CSKHPKV, Palampur, SKUAST Jammu, Nanaji Deshmukh University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, PAU & GADVASU KVKs. The valedictory function was presided by Dr. H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU and distributed the certificates to the participants. He has recognised all the participants as the ambassador of GADVASU. He asserted all the participants that whatever they have learnt during the training course may propagate in the field and pass this information to the farmers. He further stressed that GADVASU is regularly conducting various training programmes and organising Pashu Palan Melas and they can recommend it to the farmers and entrepreneurs to participate in these programme.
All the participants showed their satisfaction on the conduct of the training and course material provided during the training. Dr Manish Kumar Chatli,
Head and Course Director informed that processing of livestock products is need of the hour to prevent losses during transportation and storage, and to augment the income of the farmers. He emphasized that the value addition can help to achieve the target of doubling the income of farmer by 2022. Dr S.N.S. Randhawa, Research Advisor of Varsity told that the Department of Livestock Products Technology has a ‘state of the art’ facilities of meat and egg processing, quality assurance and packaging technologies. He further highlighted the importance of value addition and quality assurance programme to provide wholesome, nutritive and quality food to the consumers.
Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of the university congratulated the department for the successful organization of training course and asserted that GADVASU is always ready to help the farmers for their well beings. For better outreach Dr Nanda emphasized on the applied research programme and strengthening of extension services of GADVASU. Dr. P.S. Brar, Dean, College of Veterinary Science appreciated the organizing committee for holding training course in the institute.
