Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Barnala organized a five days vocational course on Integrated Fish Farming for self employment. Dr. Prahalad Singh Tanwar Associate Director, KVK, Barnala told that the financial assistance for said training course was provided by National Fisheries Development Board, Bombay. In this training programme total 22 rural youth and farmers from 8 villages of Barnala district were participated. He said that the fish farming is a new emerging area for self employment and Punjab Government is emphasizing more on fish farming. He said that fish farming may be integrated with poultry and pig farming and farmer can utilize their own resources in better way by adopting integrated system.
Sh. Khushvir Singh delivered comprehensive lecture on different types of cultivable fishes, their identification, breeding & rearing of fishes, their integration with agriculture and livestock farming systems for efficient recycling of waste, various diseases and their control, seasonal management, preparation of fish feed and management of fish pond. More emphasis was given on practical aspects of the fish farming during the training. Scientists from different KVK, State Department of Fisheries and College of fisheries, GADVASU, Ludhiana were also invited to deliver the lecture.
An exposure visit was also arranged at Integrated Fish cum Pig farm model unit of Mr. Sukhminder Singh at village Uppali (Barnala) trainees.
Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director Extension Education informed that institute is striving hard to deliver its expertise in the different nook and corners of the state.
In the second event a five day vocational training programme was conducted on “Scientific Goat Farming,” for the farmers of district Tarn Taran at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran. A total 20 participants comprising rural farmers and unemployed youth participated in this training programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) revealed that the aim of this vocational training programme was to provide scientific knowledge regarding rearing of goats to the farmers and rural youth for earning good profit from this venture. Dr. Shasipal, imparted technical knowhow on different aspect of goat farming viz. breeds, housing requirement and nutrition of goats. Dr. Balwinder Kumar delivered lecture about feed and fodder requirements for profitable and economical goat farming. In this programme different expert from GADVASU campus were also invited to deliver lectures on various aspects of goat farming. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Shasipal and Mr. Navjot Singh.
