Monitoring and Review team of ICAR visits Veterinary Varsity

The Monitoring and Review team of Education Division of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. The five members team consists of senior members from education and science fraternity as Dr. Gautam Kalloo, Former Vice-Chancellor, Dr. M. B. Chetti, ADG, ICAR, Dr. S. R. Maloo Former Dean Sh. Ashish Roy from National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad and Sh. Suresh Chandra from Central Institute of Fisheries Education. An interaction was held under the chairmanship of Dr. A. S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor GADVASU. All the officers of the university participated in the deliberations. Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean Post Graduate Studies shared the salient features of Vet Varsity like faculty strength different research projects, financial status, students position, services and different collaborations with other national and international institutes. The objective of this meeting was to review and monitor the development grant provided by the ICAR to the university for the development of infrastructure and physical facilities. After fruitful discussions Dr. M. B. Chetti, ADG said that the institute is utilizing funds and grants in a very rightful manner. Dr. Nanda revealed that we are doing our best efforts to develop GADVASU as an institute of international repute. He said that with more financial aid we will be more capable and equipped to serve the farming community with better facilities in significant manner. He also demanded that ICAR must come forward to accord liberal grants to newly institutes and universities like GADVASU so that the tag and ranking of the state veterinary university is maintained for betterment of livestock, fisheries and poultry. 

Dr. Chetti stated that education division of ICAR is going to revise grants for Center for Advance Faculty Training for (CAFT) as well as summer or winter schools almost double to the existing grant. He suggested that snow institutes should arrange trainings and winter or summer schools in better and impressive way. After getting training the faculty of different institutes will serve the whole nation he added. To boost the young students, junior research fellowship will also be revised with inclusion of new categories. More students and more disciplines may be covered in this fellowship. He said that we are promoting our campuses with Green Initiative. Every institute may develop and promote environment friendly systems like Solar Lights, Solar Pumps, Bio-Gas Plants and other Green Innovations also. He also revealed that ICAR is developing a mechanism from the coming year for grading and ranking of its institutes. The financial grants and aids may be connected with this ranking system. After a healthy discussion the team visited different colleges, ongoing projects, physical facilities and working areas of GADVASU. Firstly they visited College of Dairy Science and Technology, Kisan Hostel, Scientist Home, Veterinary Clinical Complex. After that College of Veterinary Science, Dairy Farm, College of Fisheries, Poultry Farm and new Hostel of Girls. The members were impressed after seeing the infrastructure and facilities developed by university. Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh coordinated the whole visit of the ICAR monitoring and review team.
