Veterinary Varsity Scientist recognized for outstanding contributions

Dr. JPS Gill, Director Research, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana was awarded with “Dr AT Sherikar Outstanding Public Health Veterinarian Award” by Dr H Rahman, Deputy Director General, Animal Sciences, ICAR in Annual Conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS) held at Udaipur, Rajasthan. Dr A.K. Gehlot VC, RAJUVAS, Bikaner and Dr Ashok Kumar, ADG, Animal Health ICAR were also present on this occasion.  Dr Gill was bestowed with this prestigious award for his commendable research contributions in the field of Public Health specially Zoonoses, Food Safety, Environmental Pollutants like pesticides, heavy and toxic metals, Antibiotic Residues in Food and antimicrobial resistance and their mitigation strategies. He has significantly contributed for diagnostics and awareness of brucellosis, which is a major zoonotic disease of economic importance, transmitted from animals to human beings.

Dr. Gill was the founder Director of School of Public Health and Zoonoses, GADVASU. He is also nominated as Adjunct Professor at University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He has vast research experience of managing 30 research projects as Principal Investigator and Co PI. He has successfully developed nine International Collaborations and Research Proposals with University of Saskatchewan, Canada; Canadian Food Inspection Agency; University of Sydney, Australia; Princeton University, USA; Royal Veterinary College London UK; Free University Berlin, Germany; London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene UK in area of Public Health. Dr Gill has significantly contributed as Advisor and expert in many  National level committees like Scientific Panel of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for Contaminants in the Food Chain,  Scientific Panel of FSSAI Meat and Meat Products. He has a number of International and National research and publications to his credit.

In this conference Dr Anupma Sharma, PhD student of Dr JPS Gill was also awarded Young Scientist award for her research work on Genotoxicity Induced by Deltamethrin in Mice Model and Its Public Health Significance.
