The School of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, organized six weeks “Hands-on Training in Biotechnology”. Dr Ramneek, Director of the School, elaborated that 30 students from various institutes of Punjab (Thapar University, PCTE, LPU, etc) attended the training. During the training programme the students were given actual hands on training in various modern biotechnological techniques related to molecular diagnostics, vaccinology, tissue culture, genomics, stem cell biology and bioinformatics. The school intends to organize such trainings in the future especially for the undergraduate and postgraduate students with an aim to provide glimpse of work being carried out in the biotechnology/ molecular biology field which can help them to plan & strengthen their ongoing research work.
Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean, Post Graduate Studies informed that the school has excellent facilities and sufficient expert faculty trained in different areas of molecular biology and biotechnology for imparting training to students and faculty from other institutes. Dr Singh further elaborated that School is also offering Master’s and Ph.D in Biotechnology to Bachelor’s and Master’s students from non-veterinary background.
Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director of Extension Education said that whereas university is conducting different type of technical training we are imparting trainings on different animal husbandry aspects for farmers also. In this connection university is going to conduct a specialized dairy training course of two weeks from 25 July 2016.
