Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra Handiaya (Barnala) has organized a one day seminar on Brucellosis awareness and blood testing camp on 11th April 2016, for veterinary officers, veterinary inspectors, Artificial insemination workers and farmers of Barnala district. The programme was attended by more than 60 participants. Programme was inaugurated by Dr. H. K Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU. Dr. Verma said that GADVASU playing a vital role in livestock development in the Punjab state, he also motivated the trainees for awareness of zoonotic diseases and its regular health check-up by field practitioners with the help of availing the facilities of GADVASU, Ludhiana. Dr Verma said that livestock farming will be more beneficial and can produce young entrepreneurs through it in the form of dairy, piggery, goatry, fish farming and through value addition of the livestock produce. There is strong demand in the market for the livestock produce, but it should be of good quality as everybody, is health conscious and wants quality produce. For that, the role of University and service departments is most significant and both have to perform excellently through their domains.
Deputy Director, KVK, Dr PS Tanwar emphasized on importance of livestock
farming and its role in livelihood security of the farmers in the changing agricultural scenario. He encouraged the participants to attend such seminars on importance of different animal diseases in future to strengthen the extension work in the field of livestock production with the ever increasing livestock database.
