National Academy of Dairy Science (India) has conferred the fellowship to Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. He was decorated with the fellowship at 4th Convocation of National Academy of Dairy Science (India), at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) campus Karnal, Haryana. Dr PD Juyal, Vice- Chancellor, Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Sciences University, Jabalpur was the Chief Guest, while Dr H. Rahman , DDG(Animal Sciences), ICAR presided over the impressive function. Dr. Harish Kumar Verma is a distinguished Veterinarian who did his BVSC and MVSC with Merit and Junior Research Fellowship from ICAR, New Delhi for 6 years. He did Ph.D from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana in Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics. Dr. Verma joined PAU as Assistant Professor in May 1989. He is among those faculty members of university who worked in the field for the benefit of farmers. He has been frequently interacting with farmers to provide tips for optimizing production through adequate management of their animals through Lectures, Animal welfare camp, Field days, Radio and TV talks. He as more than 500 popular and 85 Research articles, eight books and four manuals, 20 training compendia and editor of 20 GADVASU publications.
To control the menace of infertility and for optimum management, he has developed 3 DVDs in local language for farmers. He was university editors for the nine years including varsity’s monthly magazine ‘Vigiyanak Pashu Palan’. As an editor, it was emphasized that every technology developed by GADVASU is published and made popular through testing in the field. He has worked as PRO of University for about two years. During his research career of past 28 years, he has supervised 10 masters and PhD students. Dr. Verma was instrumental in starting ‘Information Centre’ and ‘Farmers Advisory Cell’ in GADVASU with the aim of providing facilities, Information and University literature under single roof. He has conducted 148 training programmes, 7 workshops for officers of line departments and 51 specialized training programmes for livestock farmers. He has organized first National conference of “Society for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension” (SVAHE) in November 2015. Dr. Verma was bestowed with a number of prestigious National and International awards.
