College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana celebrated “World Water Day” on 22nd of March 2016 to create the much needed awareness for conserving our valuable water resources through a collective and sincere human effort.
On this occasion Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries said that water plays a vital role in human life including the environment, health, food production (agricultures and livestock production) and other household/trade activities, and these resources are depleting very fast due to various human activities. ‘World Water Day’ is celebrated to create awareness among human beings to understand their responsibilities to use water not only for themselves, but also to conserve it for their future generations. It is celebrated throughout the world by organizing different events and activities like visual art, theatrical and musical celebrations, water management and safety approaches to the local ponds, lakes, rivers and reservoirs, seminar at local, national and international level, mass media approaches and various educational events based on the importance of clean water and conservative measures.
College organized a ‘Poster Making Competition’ with United Nation’s theme for 2016 - ‘Water and Jobs’ and the winners were awarded. Dr. Shanthanagouda A.H, in-charge, College Dance Drama and Music Club (DDMC) co-ordinated the event. In addition, students also made presentations for conserving water and life on this earth. Dr. Charan Kamal Singh, Professor, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU was the guest of honor. While addressing the students he elaborately explained the importance of water in all spheres of life. Dr. Asha Dhawan appreciated the talent, creativity and enthusiasm expressed by the students during the event. She also shared her views regarding the ‘Importance and conservation of water’ on this occasion, and expressed that after participating in such events, all the students of the college will certainly make sincere efforts in conserving water. With a message to respect and take care of the water for welfare of the environment and mankind, the event concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Vaneet I. Kaur.
