Two scientists of ‘College of Dairy Science & Technology’, of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary And Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana Dr. Pranav Kumar Singh and Dr. Veena N got best poster awards in poster session in different categories for their research work at 44th Dairy Industry Conference’ held at ICAR-NDRI, Karnal (Haryana).Dr. Singh presented the application of Microfluidization in dairy industry, relatively a newer concept for the manufacture of cultured dairy products like dahi, yoghurt, lassi etc. Dr. Veena’s work was on the development of functional milk fortified with health promoting food ingredients (viz., Omega-3 fatty acids, phytosterols and soluble dietary fibre) that are helpful in cholesterol reduction and hence, considered good for the heart. Dr. Anil Kumar Puniya, Dean of the College said this recognition is indeed a very good achievement of the College, especially when the college is relatively new compared to other Dairy Colleges/ Institutes in the country. He also said that scientists of the college are working on different projects related to value addition, milk production economics and designing of newer equipments.
He said that Dairy Industry Conference is the annual feature of the Indian Dairy Association, which is conducted at different locations across the country. This year it was organized on the theme, ‘Make in India: Dairying 2030’. More than 2500 delegates from different parts of India and abroad attended the conference. Delegates representing dairy farmers, researchers, the dairy Industry professionals, policy makers, students and eminent thinkers participated in deliberations and discussed on different aspects of Indian dairying starting from milk production, processing, marketing and policy issues including human resource development. Besides, oral presentations by the distinguished speakers there were poster presentation sessions for the researchers to showcase their important research findings.
Dr. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU appreciated the work done by the scientists and assured full co-operation for conducting research in best interest of farmers.
