Vet Varsity organizes 34th Annual Convention of Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine

34th Annual Convention of Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine (ISVM) and National Symposium on “Newer Approaches in Diagnosis and Management of Animal Diseases for Sustainable Health and Production” organized by the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana was inaugurated today at Pal Auditorium. It will be three day conference from 17-19 Feb, 2016. 

The organising secretary, Dr B K Bansal, Head Dept of Veterinary medicine, welcomed all the guests who have come not only from India but also from abroad. There were more than 500 participants in this conference. Dr S. N. S Randhawa, President of ISVM, in his welcome remarks emphasized on adopting the latest diagnostic techniques in the veterinary medicine. Prof John Campbell, Professor and Head, Western college of Veterinary medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada chief guest of this conference In his inaugural address talked about the important diseases of the livestock causing considerable economic losses. Dr F Uehlinger, expert in large animal veterinary medicine, from college of Veterinary medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada raise some important issues for treatment of calf diarrhoea, a major cause of farm losses.

Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of the university congratulated the organizing committee for holding conference in the institute. He expressed in detail about present improved livestock health in the country due to the sustained efforts by the veterinarians. Dr. Nanda anticipated that the conference will go a long way to address the challenges in livestock farming. He said that the conference workshop on the sidelines of symposium is quite in line with the national thrust on skill development as a part of “Skill India Campaign”. He said that with new approaches we will be able to deliver  refine and improved practices for livestock community. It will check the huge losses occurred due to bad health and poor management of the livestock. In this conference, many retired senior Professor like Dr R M Bhardwaj (Hissar), Dr D K Thakur (Ranchi), Dr R D Sharma (Nainital), Dr D B Sarode (Nagpur) and Dr K B Singh (Ludhiana) were facilitated for their services in the field of veterinary Medicine. Dr P S Dhaliwal Comptorller GADVASU, presented the vote of thanks.
