34th Annual Convention of Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine (ISVM) and National Symposium on “Newer Approaches in Diagnosis and Management of Animal Diseases for Sustainable Health and Production” will be organized by the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana from February 17-19, 2016. Besides, a Conference Workshop on advance Clinical Procedures in Veterinary Practice comprising endoscopy, echocardiography and ultrasonography has been planned on the sides of conference. About 500 scientists, academicians, researchers and postgraduate students from throughout the country are expected to attend the event. The conference will provide a common platform for all the stakeholders of animal husbandry to share their experiences and expertise.
Dr. B.K. Bansal, Organizing Secretary told that the conference will be conducted in eight technical sessions including farm animal, companion animals, equines and wild animals infectious and non-infectious diseases besides sessions on biotechnology in animal health and complementary and alternative medicine. Dr. Bansal told that the conference will help the experts to deliberate the present practices and formulate the future policies and programs for improved diagnosis and management of animal diseases. Dr. S.N.S. Randhawa, President ISVM & Director of Research, GADVASU lauded the efforts of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and told that Conference Workshop being organized along with National Symposium, is a major initiative being introduced for the first time in veterinary practice. Dr. Randhawa emphasized that major challenges for sustainable health and production can only be addressed by re-orienting veterinary medicine education for fostering academic excellence, inculcating entrepreneurship in postgraduates and addressing key concerns in quality assurance. Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of the university congratulated the organizing committee for holding conference in the institute. Dr. Nanda anticipated that the conference will go a long way to address the challenges in livestock farming. He said that the conference workshop on the sidelines of symposium is quite in line with the national thrust on skill development as a part of “Skill India Campaign”.
