Vet Varsity Animal Breeder brings laurels for institute

A national symposium on Policy Planning for Livelihood Security through Domestic Animal Biodiversity” was organized at Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Jammu. Dr. Simrinder Singh Sodhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education presented a research paper on “Identification of differentially expressed gene by transcriptomic analysis using RNA-seq in the fat tissue of Jeju Native Pig and adult Berkshire pig. Research paper presented by Dr. Sodhi was adjudged as best poster presentation award. After completing his Ph.D. from Jeju National University, South Korea, Dr. Sodhi has recently joined back GADVASU. He worked on the native pig breed of Jeju island of South Korea. During his research he studied the patterns of genetic variations using Molecular and transcriptomic analysis of differentially expressed genes of Jeju Native Pig. Prajwalita Pathak, a post graduate student of Veterinary Varsity also presented her poster on growth, carcass and immune responsiveness traits in native chicken breed and has won “second best poster presentation award”. Dr. Sodhi also informed that his research will provide a route to apply this knowledge for the upliftment and improvement of indigenous breeds of India.

Dr. H. K. Verma, Director of Extension Education congratulated Dr. Sodhi and Dr. Prajwalita on their achievements. He informed that more than 200 scientists and researchers from all over India participated in the conference and it is a matter of pride that work done by scientists from GADVASU has been duly acknowledged at national level. Dr. Verma further informed that conservation of domestic livestock has always been a concern and GADVASU is always working on these lines.
