Professor Barry T. Rouse, distinguished Professor at the University of Tenessee, Knoxville, USA delivered a talk entitled, “Immunity or tissue damage to infection – what decides the outcome” to the faculty and students at GADVASU, Ludhiana. In his thought provoking lecture, Professor Rouse enlisted the various factors leading to pathogenesis of infectious diseases. He dwelled on wide ranging topics like Zika virus and Herpes virus infections and explained the immune-pathogenesis caused by cytokines secreted by the leukocytes. He elucidated the role of regulatory T cells in influencing the course and outcome of immune responses in infectious diseases.
The faculty and students appreciated his humorous approach to tackling complex concepts and his oratorical skills. The talk was chaired by Professor Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean, Postgraduate Studies at GADVASU. Other officers namely Dr. Harpal Singh Sandhu, Dean College of Veterinary Science, Dr. S.N.S. Randhawa, Director of Research, Dr. Sushil Prabhakar, Registrar and Dr. H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education also interacted with the distinguished visitor. Professor Rouse also had stimulating interactions with the young postgraduate students.
