National Model Training Course for Veterinary Officers from seven states in GADVASU

A National model training course on “Application of Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Tools for Animal Health Management at Field Level” for field veterinary officers begins in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. The course has been sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The Veterinary Officers from seven different states including Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Punjab are participating in this course organized from Dec. 1-8, 2015. Dr. B.K. Bansal, the Course Director told that the Department of Veterinary Medicine has an excellent clinical facility with more than 25000 clinical cases presented at university clinics annually. He told that participants will be trained in advanced clinical procedures such as radiography, echocardiography, blood transfusion, ECG, endoscopy, ultrasonography, ophthalmology, otoscopy in Veterinary practice. Besides, the management of common herd health problems such as reproductive disorders, colic, fore stomach disorders, hoof care and mastitis etc will be discussed. The trainees will also be provided hands on training on application of molecular tools in disease diagnosis and prevention.

Dr. H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU was the Chief Guest at the inaugural function and said  that this department is handling huge number of clinical cases and isone of the most vibrant clinical department which is also   providing good  extension services to the farmers  in the form of area specific mineral mixtures, mastitis diagnostic kits and awareness about effective management of hoof lesions(lameness) and digestive disorders  in milch animals and also awareness on common prevalent and emerging diseases .  The training course will provide a great opportunity to animal health specialists to improve their diagnostic skills for rationale field practices for handling of sick animals. Dr. H.S Sandhu, Dean, College of Veterinary Science was the Guest of honour and  congratulated the organizing committee for holding training course in the institute and stressed that practical and hands on training should be stressed in this course. Dr. P.S. Dhaliwal, Comptroller, GADVASU praised the efforts made by organizers for the event. Dr. B.K. Bansal course director thanked the Animal Husbandry Directorates of different states for nominating the veterinary officers for training and Ministry of Agriculture Welfare, Govt. of India for sponsoring and granting the program to GADVASU.

Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of the University appreciated the efforts of Veterinary  Medicine department and anticipated that the course will go a long way to address the challenges in livestock farming for enhancing productivity.
