International workshop on

School of Public Health and Zoonoses of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) is organising  three day International Workshop on “GIS Mapping & Data Analysis for Animal Health” in collaboration with The University of Sydney, Australia, from November 26-28, 2015 to help boost research to understand spatial distribution of animal diseases.

Dr JPS Gill, Coordinator Research, GADVASU cum Director School of Public Health and Zoonoses and organising secretary of this workshop informed that this international workshop is being organised as a part of a collaborative One Health project between GADVASU and The University of Sydney, Australia so as to improve health of livestock and people at animal human interface. GADVASU signed a MOU with The University of Sydney early this year for collaborative research and for facilitating exchange of faculty and students.

The workshop was inaugurated today by Dr SNS Randhawa, Director of Research, GADVASU, Ludhiana. He informed that geographic information system (GIS) is an epidemiological tool designed to capture, store, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data regarding various diseases prevalent in area. Dr AS Nanda Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, congratulated the organisers for this endeavour and hoped that it will help boost research to understand spatial distribution of animal diseases this region. Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh Dean PGS, Dr AK Puniya Dean College of Dairy Sciences and heads of various departments of GADVASU attended inaugural session and keynote address of Professor Michael Ward on rabies.
